If you are fatigued from doing right in the world don't let up. Push on. Doing good is reward in itself.
I am frequently asked bout the current state of confusion in the world. And connected to that, the way forward. For many people the current state of things in secular and religious life have left many people in varying degrees of distress. We should not be surprised at this state of affairs as the secular and religious world have frequently abandoned long held norms and in some cases radically diverted from or divested themselves from these norms.
We know the people around us that are happy, they attract us. They are often happy with life and are the "glass half-full" sort of people. They are encouraging without their even having to do anything more than smile or laugh. Their being can be infectious and quite "lifting".
We all face distractions through the day. At work, home, during conversations, during sports and at church. For companies and government offices this can amount to a great deal of time and productivity loss as well as profits. We can even find, after minutes of driving, that we don’t remember the moments just gone by, nor the places or traffic around us during our “distracted blackout”.
The Promised Land for the Hebrew people, a place of longed for happiness in God's presence and his freedom. It is a place of fulfilment. No more searching, no more wandering. And since the Kingdom is not an earthly one, our promised land is that kingdom we become members of at our baptism and live, while here in this world. We, like the Hebrew people wander through our own deserts eventually crossing into our true homeland.
