All of this is simply convenience and the simplicity of the life we have created for ourselves. But we have to remember that it is only a creation and something for our convenience. Because even without these electronic means we still are linked. Even if the only way of speaking is through the telephone and writing a letter, that is the way we have done things for many years.
We are living and breathing in our own environments and surrounded by people also we are connected to. We live and breath making our living decisions in full sunlight. These lives are not long. We know that. But what we do while the wood is green in our lives is ours and can be enriching to ourselves and others. Look at the beauty we see around us in nature and people.
We need each other. Sometimes we prefer to be alone, and need to be alone. But there are times we need others in our lives to be a help and offer love and friendship. We are individuals but we are interconnected. “No man is an island” we hear. And that is indeed true.
If we watch the news broadcasts regularly we may be inclined to see the world in a very negative light. It would appear there are not very many good people in the world; that there are only corrupt politicians. With a steady diet of this type of reporting indeed a negative image is formed in much of the world - of the world.
Our society is oriented towards those who stand out, are famous. In our own entourage we seek to be noticed in our family and friends. Sometimes our work may require that we are seen and known. Quite acceptable of course. And we want our work to succeed. Perhaps a high profile is necessary for the sake of sales and branding. It is the inner self who must remain that quiet apostle working untiringly in the background.
